Wordpress Plug-ins We Use
To all the coders out there that have made Wordpress Plug-ins, we salute you!
And to all the codes that have made the ones we’re using, we salute you even more! And have made (or will make very soon) you donations if you’ve got dandy PayPal donation links on your sites.
Here’s what we’re using…
Aksimet
Essential plug-in to stop nasty people and nastier bots guffing your comments up with spam. Guffers.
Cross-Linker
Automatically makes words that you enter in your blog posts hyperlinks to pre-specified URLs. We use it to link up football club Web sites and bookie sites (with affiliate codes when we have them).
Evermore
Makes just the first part of a post appear on the blog home page, with a “Click to read the rest of this rubbish” link to see the full post. Recommended to avoid duplicate content on your blog, apparently.
Robots Meta
Lets you easily edit your robots.txt file so you can point Googlebot (and other crawlers) in the right direction to find your content. With Wordpress categories, it’s easy to end up with duplicate content, so you can use robots.txt to keep crawlers out of potential duplicate folders.
SEO Slugs
Strips common words like “what”, “you” or “can” out of your post slug to make it more search engine friendly. We use a lot of common words because we’re a bit common.
SEO Title Tags
Lets you have a different page title from the post title, so you can have a lovely entertaining title on your post for readers, and a slightly genetically engineered page title that (in theory, you think) will be more appealing to Google.
